Initially a military garment, the saharienne was later adopted by safari enthusiasts. In 1967, Yves Saint Laurent was the first to include this jacket with patch pockets in his collections. It is traditionally cut from cotton or linen canvas.
The Swann Saharienne is an even more rustic version: we used the famous Donegal fabric from the eponymous town in western Ireland, facing the Atlantic. This tweed, once hand-woven by local farmers and fishermen, is distinguished by its speckled appearance achieved by integrating threads of different colors into the weft. There's something poetic and moving about this fabric, whose colors evoke the Celtic moors.
This technique gives the fabric a rich texture and rustic appearance, while offering warmth and durability. Historically used for rugged outerwear, Donegal tweed is now prized for elegant pieces such as jackets, coats and accessories, combining traditional craftsmanship with refinement.
