Qui sont les cravatiers de la fameuse Seven Fold Tie ?
Founded in Naples in 1914 by Eugenio Marinella, the Marinella label is currently led by his grandson, Maurizio, who creates the patterns on the silk fabrics that are still printed in England. No more than four ties are produced using a single pattern, which means that a new collection from the “tie-maker to statesmen the world over” comes out every two weeks. The boutique showroom receives orders for tailored neckties of every kind, including the sumptuous seven-fold silk.
Seven-fold silk ties are produced by other famous Neapolitan manufacturers, such as Luigi Borrelli, Mariano Rubinacci and Gianluca Isaia, not forgetting Kiton. Further north, seven-fold ties come from the famous Battistoni workshop in Rome, or Florence-based Stefano Ricci, who designs the patterns on his silk products himself and who occasionally creates one-off tie designs at exorbitant prices. Bulgari remains faithful to seven-fold silk ties and continually updates its range of patterns and colours for this exceptional model.
In the Geneva area, the workshops of the luxurious Atelier F&B brand, which was created in 2002 by François Vinas and Bernard Schwok, the third generation in charge of the Swiss Anthime Mouley group, with workshops based in Gaillard – offer a continuously updated range of high-end seven-fold ties. In Paris, the stalwart Charvet label on the Place Vendôme produces 8,000 tie designs per year, and creates tailor-made, seven-fold ties for the most demanding customers. At 24, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Hermès maintains a range of ultra-high quality seven-fold ties. The seven-fold ties of the famous Parisian label, Arnys, are produced in limited series runs. Near Lyon, the workshops of the Saint Sens label offer seven-fold ties in silk jacquard. A less expensive option is offered by the seven-fold ties from the young Parisian luxury brand, Panache Blanc, exclusively available from Frenchgentleman.com, or by the bespoke ties offered by new French brands such as Swann. In Great Britain, tie-makers often demonstrate a bit more imagination in the patterns on their silk fabrics, daring to offer floral patterns or eccentric colours. Turnbull Asser’s ties are hand-made in England and are absolutely essential, while Charles Tyrwhitt offers seven-fold ties with a more traditional style. Among luxury prêt-à-porter brands, Burberry regularly launches special edition, handmade Italian seven-fold ties. Further afield, in the USA, Robert Talbott’s handmade seven-fold ties have been produced in Carmel, California, since 1950, while a plethora of hand-sewn seven-fold ties, signed by the craftsman or woman who created them, is also available from Carlo Franco.
